I have to admit that following a number of white cans on the road trip to Hamilton the previous night this was the first game I didn't manage to watch more than about 2 minutes as I was standing at a leaner outside the default Irish pub (The Steamship). It was soon apparent that it wasn't going to be close & by the sound of it the Argies were just too powerful & mobile for the Romanians. Here are the video highlights.
Now Piri has decided to follow the drift north to Auckland to play his Super 15 rugby there. The Wellington senior players are really teaching Hammett & his paymasters a lesson. Eaton to Kirkpatrick to Hobbs next year is not going to frighten many sides.
They are still struggling to keep Gear & Jane but the NZRU is still talking up their playing squad for next year. This is just insulting to the intelligence of Wellington fans & as previously predicted its going to be a long season for them next year.
After the big deal about the new All Black jersey it turned out to be some extra tight fitting material & a splash of white around the collar (if you can call it that). Anything retro connecting them to the 1987 side is fine by me - I don't care what any "fashion designer" has to say. Let's move on & concentrate on the footie.
I see a big topic among the brain dead NZ rugby journo's is the All Blacks wearing coloured boots. Now they've moved on to the tight fitting nature of the new AB jersey to be unveiled this week & also the fact that the public can't attend All Black trainings anymore. Does any of this really matter?
Surely what counts is how they perform on the field & whether they win or not. We should be behind these guys this year & not be trying to question peripheral matters. Get stuck in about performances, selection, etc when warranted but not this other nonsense.
The recent decision of Carl Hayman to play for the Euro's rather than the All Blacks (& a fair chunk of Taranaki) has generated plenty of debate about selecting NZ players who play for European clubs.
The recent experience of Butch James, selected to play for the Springboks this weekend vs Wales, should act as a warning to those in favour of it.
Claims of racial selection at the Crusaders & an ex NZ player charged with slavery in France - some interesting stuff out there in the news!!
Seems the NZRU & even the mighty Counties union might be getting involved in the global auction for Sonny Bill Williams conducted by his dubious agent Khoder Nasser, who can yell "Show me the money" louder than most.
