All Blacks make 2 changes - Springboks scalp half the team

The All Blacks have made only two changes to the starting XV for this week's test returning Jimmy Cowan to the halfback spot in place of Piri Weepu & replacing one Franks brother (Owen) with another (Ben).  Meanwhile the Boks have made 7 selection changes & another positional change as they look to avenge the hidings they took in New Zealand.

Yes its that dreaded word REST (but not rotation) given as the reason for Owen's demotion & he's not even in the 22 man squad with John Afoa coming on to the bench.  Israel Dagg also regains his rightful spot in the 22 in place of Benson Stanley.

As for the Boks - some of the changes have been enforced with Fourie suspended, Pienaar injured & Kirchner injured as well (though the word was that he would be dropped anyway).  JP Pietersen & Jannie du Plessis return from injury as does Jean de Villiers from suspension & Juan Smit from bereavement leave after the death of his father.  So with all this going on the changes are;

Fullback - Aplon replaces Kirchner
Right wing - JP Pietersen replaces Aplon
Centre - De Jongh replaces Fourie
2nd five - de Villiers replaces Olivier
Halfback - Hougaard replaces Pienaar
Blindside flanker - Smith replaces Kankowski
Lock - van der Merwe replaces Rossouw (mainly due to injury concerns over Rossouw)
Tighthead prop - Jannie du Plessis replaces BJ Botha

Francois Louw & Ricky Januarie return to the bench.

It seems it really is a bit of a merry-go-round in selection for the Boks this year (similar to the All Blacks in 1998).  The return of Pietersen & Smith adds a lot of experience & also de Villiers is in his rightful position of 2nd five.  But the return of Jannie du Plessis means the 4th consecutive change at tighthead prop & De Jongh normally plays 2nd five & hasn't played with de Villiers.

Four players (van der Merwe, Smith, Hougaard & Pietersen) are starting for the first time for the Boks this year - going to be interesting to see how they stand up to the intensity of this test.
