The countdown is well and truely on for the tickets to the rugby world cup 2011, While most of the questions revolve around will NZ make it to the final a more important question should probably be will I (you!) be at any of the games? With the chances at being at the Final or semi final kind of low in my opinion (especially if you haven't been to pool games).
Pre registration of interest has been underway for some time with actual applications starting on the 27th of April 2010, and the rugby community getting an early kick off.
Those in the NZ rugby community have been sent a reasonably detailed offer outlining the process and cost of tickets for the tournament, these will be pretty similar for everyone else so a bit of a summary below.
Tickets on offer have been broken up into 3 phases.
Phase 1:
Applications for venue and team pool packs (Quarter final Weekend Pack)
Phase 2:
Applications for individual tickets
Phase 3:
Semi-Finals and Final Ballots
It seems if you are using a Mastercard you will get double entry points into the ballot if you are a member of the rugby community, i can only assume that this is going to happen for the public ballot as well so get those Mastercards warmed up as it might just give you the edge on getting your seats.
You can see the rugby community document http://tickets.rugbyworldcup.com/info/rugbycommunity.aspx which goes into quite a bit of detail, you can register from tomorrow if this is you! Good luck.
Also remember that in an effort to reduce the touting of tickets at excessive prices in the aftermarket, it is against the RWC policy to charge more than face value for the exchange of tickets etc. How this is going to be enforced i have no idea but good luck to them. The tickets in France were getting quite expensive once the POMs got into the final in 2007!
